Report: Sega And Gearbox Hit With Class Action Suit For Aliens: Colonial Marines

acm2.7.13610

The fallout from Sega and Gearbox’s disappointing Aliens game has been ugly. Now, a class action lawsuit alleges that the companies engaged in false advertising when marketing and promoting the game.

The gaming website Polygon broke the news that a suit had been filed in a Northern District of California court. According to the Polygon report, it was filed by “Edelson LLC on behalf of plaintiff Damion Perrine.” The story says that the suit “[cites] a number of California civil and business codes, [and] claims that Gearbox and Sega falsely advertised Aliens by showing demos at trade shows like PAX and E3 which didn’t end up being accurate representations of the final product.”

The suit claims that demos shown to the press at various events were not indicative of the game’s actual gameplay. For more check out the original Polygon article.

Previously, there had been some controversy as to whether or not Gearbox misappropriated resources and money from Sega intended to be used on Aliens: Colonial Marines for other projects that were being developed within Gearbox at the time. The game was largely panned by critics.
