Sony has revealed that its Vita handheld is getting a price cut and a new color in its home turf of Japan by the end of the month.
The system’s adjusted price for both the wi-fi and 3G versions is 19,980 Yen, which translates to about $215. That’s about $35 to $85 less than what the system is currently priced at here in the states. The price cuts will be taking effect starting February 28. A new Ice Silver version of the hardware is coming to Japan as well.
The timing aligns with Sony’s recent statements about the system’s sales. Sony CEO Kaz Hirai has said that sales of the Vita and PSP have been on the low end of projections, causing the company to adjust sales projections for its fiscal year ending in March.
There’s no word yet as to whether these promotions will be heading over to North America.
