Capcom has officially announced Lost Planet 3.
Set to return in 2013, the new sequel returns to planet EDN III. The game introduces Jim, a contractor who has left Earth to obtain samples of Thermal Energy on EDN III for Neo-Venus Construction (NEVEC).
Jim visits the Coronis base on EDN III and soon sets out on a mission to find a natural source of Thermal Energy using a utility rig. According to Capcom, “acting as a home away from home and boasting an array of tools that can assist Jim on the field, the utility rig provides Jim’s safety and is essential for not only his contract work but also his protection against the ever-changing climate. ”
Lost Planet 3 will feature first-person combat while playing in the rig and third-person combat on foot. The game will be powered by Unreal Engine 3 instead of the MT Framework engine that powered past Lost Planet titles. The game is in development by Spark Unlimited, who previously developed Legendary and Turning Point: Fall of Liberty.
Lost Planet 3 will hit Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC in early 2013.
